TUI-NA

Tui-na, or Tui-na-an-mo, is a Chinese manual therapy used in both treatment and prevention of disease. It was first utilized in 1600 BC.   It is a branch of TCM practiced regularly in China, along with the other four medical  branches of acupuncture, herbology, food therapy, and qi-gong.  The practitioner applies different touching and pulling techniques to acupuncture points and meridians.  "Tui" means push and "na" means pull or lift.  "An" means press and "mo" means touch.  In a western sense, the technique resembles a combination of lots of massage techniques (over 200!), acupressure, and chiropractic rolled into one.  The technique is very gentle.

Tui na is used for many conditions.  It can help soothe joints and tendons, stimulate energy, relieve pain, stimulate circulation, and strengthen the immune system.  Most animals, and people, really enjoy the treatments and find them quite relaxing.

Tui na can be used to help the following conditions:
  • arthritis, tendonitis, spinal pain, muscle pain
  • peripheral nerve problems
  • general weakness
  • pain
  • laminitis in horses
  • performance enhancement in canine and equine athletes.
  • geriatric and pediatric issues, due to the gentle nature of tui na.
Tui na is a great modality for owners to learn so they can help their pets at home.  It will augment the acupuncture and herbs and speed the healing process.  Dr. Clark will give you tui-na homework after each session.
